Spiritous beverage from Oaxaca
Mezcal is a distilled spirit made from many different kinds of agave plants. It is produced mainly in south Mexico and more so in the state of Oaxaca.
It has become trendy in the last years and is now in the focus of interest of lots of tourists visiting Oaxaca.
Contrary to Tequila which is produced from only single kind of agave, MEZCAL is produced from at least 12 different kind of agave, each of them having their own peculiarities in flavor and taste: woody, floral, herbal, fruity… and so on.
There are also different ways to produce mezcal: ancestral, traditional and industrial process are used to produce it.
The high demand of mezcal has produced lots of different brands. Finding the best mezcal, the ones produced in ancestral and traditional ways is the purpose of this tour: going to places where mezcal being produced with the best care and quality.
The tour starts when you are picked up at your hotel. From there the tour goes to the south area of the Valley, to Santa Catarina Minas to visit one 'Palenque' - the local name of the mezcal producing units- where the "ancestral way" of producing mezcal is used. Here we will have a fist class experience in the tasting of different kinds of mezcal. After this the tour continues to Matatlán, the so called "World Capital of Mezcal" to visit two other places of traditional production.
