Krakow - Nowa Huta Communist Tour by Tram with a private guide
Nowa Huta steel works and communist district of Krakow is quite simply the best example of Social Realism architecture in Europe.
Built in late 1940's on request of Joseph Stalin in purpose of NATO attack prevention, reminds the viewer of a huge fortress. The largest protests of Solidarity movement took place here in 1980's.
This is where serendipity is your tour guide and all stereotypes about the communist regime fall apart!
We will take a tram ride from the city center to Nowa Huta (circa 20 - 25 minutes one way).
This tour will introduce you to the most famous sights of Nowa Huta district:
the XIIIth century Cistercian Abbey - the first producer of steel in this area
Solidarity Avenue - the route of the biggest protests of Solidarity movement in 1980's
famous architecture of Nowa Huta with fortress type buildings and Central Square
scandinavian council housing adapted in Nowa Huta for steelworkers' accomodation in 1970's
the Ark of The Lord Church with its amazing architecture and design.
You will be able to learn about communism times political situation, metality and living conditions, as well as Solidarity movement history. You will also be able to see numerous documentary photographs from those times. If you wish to take a short break - we can arrange it at the most famous communist style diner "Stylowa" (optional).

Meeting location: I will meet you at your hotel lobby.
End location: I will drop you off at your hotel or in Krakow's Old Town.
