historic rural Denbighshire

This tour will bring history to life whilst you tour our scenic valleys and hills.
Since the 1200's rural Denbighshire has been a hive of activity. Valle Crucis Abbey was built in 1201 for the Cisterian monks. Remains of one of the castles built by Edward I can be visited in Denbigh, it also offers the town walls and other historic buildings of the same period. The Vale of Clwyd has numerous churches and holy wells of historic importance, many have carvings and wall paintings and stained glass from the 1550's. The site of St Asaph Cathedral dates from 560 AD and the inserted photo is the inside of St. Marcella's a beautifully preserved church from the 16th century. The towns of Ruthin and Denbigh still have the homes of merchants and King's men of the 1400s.
Most of these wonderful historic buildings can be toured any day. You will find yourself engrossed in the detail of the craftsmanship, and mesmerised by their astounding achievements.

A Recent Review of this tour

Excellent tour by a wonderful, enthusiastic and accommodating tour guide, Pauline. I hope to be able to meet up with her again to maximize my limited time in Wales. We had fabulous weather and thankfully accepted her recommendations on a locations for a B & B. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an individual tour.
