So much history in small proximity of the liberation of Europe.

This tour will include, Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, La Pointe du Hoc, The American Cemetery at Colleville-Sur- Mer, Sainte-Mère-Église, Le Pont de la Fière and some out of the way machine gun posts, Tobruks!

I will give ongoing talks on the history of each section and depend on how much time we spend on each site, we'll visit museums. I will also discuss the overall history of WW2, normally as we travel between each site and over lunch, depending on individual requirements and knowledge.

* There are many small cinema screenings of personal testimonies or films taken during the invasion to be seen in some of the sites, museums etc. The lowering of the flag ceremony at the cemetery. You may want to see it if we have time.
I can also talk about the local histories of the various places we drive through. We can stop to purchase local products if requested.

Itinerary

This tour has three main features:
The American Cemetery, Omaha Beach and La Pointe Du Hoc, where James Rudder and the US Rangers scaled the cliffs. The location is virtually unchanged since 1944.
Also, it incorporates La Pont de la Fiere, the bridge that was the inspiration for the bridge at Ramelle in 'Saving Private Ryan'.

Highly recommended is Sainte-Mère-Église, where the actor Red Buttons played John Steele in 'The Longest Day' Hanging from the church tower. There is the wonderful Airborne museum here also.
We can visit Utah Beach where Brig Gen Theodore Roosevelt landed with his famous words: "let's start the war from here".
Let's visit some well-hidden machine gun emplacements near Omaha that give a real idea of what the Germans saw on that I'll fate landing beach.

This tour is packed with so many great things to see! We discuss at the outset your preferences, I will recommend certain places and we take it from there, with the aim to see as much as possible that you want to see.
