Sweet and Dry Tour
This 4 hour tour not only takes you to the Chocolate factory and a winery but also takes you to one of the world's first great engineering accomplishments, the Welland Shipping Canal, which allows ocean going vessels to make their way up the Niagara Escarpment from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. I will explain to you how the system works, tell you the history of the canal in great detail and show you the museum. From there we move on to the Chocolate factory, one of the largest chocolate factories in Canada at 15, 000 sq ft. The majority of their product is made for wholesale and distributed all over North America. There you will be able to try some of their 85 different sorts from their sampling bar. After chocolate comes the wine. The first winery in the Niagara Region opened in 1975. Their fine wines are now known all over the world, especially their Icewine, a wine made from frozen grapes. We can make 1 more stop where you can see a glass-blowing demonstration and do some shopping if you wish.
From pick-up at the pre-arranged time from your place of stay in Niagara, we will proceed to the Welland Canal, then on to the Chocolate Factory. After that we will carry on to the Winery for your wine tasting. Should you require a lunch break, it would normally take place after the visit to the winery but that is open to discussion. Then we make our way back to your dropping-off point, stopping at a glass-blowing demonstration, where you can also do some shopping, if you wish. This order of events is subject to change, depending on schedules, bookings etc.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: We will meet at your place of stay in the Niagara area at the pre-arranged time, either 9.00 or 10.00 a.m. or 1.00 or 2.00 p.m.
End location: You will be dropped off after the tour at the place of pick-up.
Duration: 4 hours
This tour is a minimum 4 hours, it could be 30 minutes to an hour longer depending upon local conditions.
Transportation will be provided using my clean, comfortable, air-conditioned, silver 2012 Kia Forte.
Everything other than wine tasting fees is included, i.e. My guiding time, transportation, chocolate sampling.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
15 CAD $ - This amount will only be necessary if you decide you want to stop somewhere for a meal break.
The cost of wine tasting is not included. Most wineries charge between $1 and $1.50 for domestic wines and between $3 and $5 for icewine. Should you decide to buy a bottle of icewine the tasting fee is deducted from the price of the bottle.
Due to the possibility of heavy traffic, many tourists, entrance and permit fees, I do not offer a tour of the Niagara Parkway.
