A guided tour through a couple of centuries of entertainment, criminal and general history
The criminal and entertainment history of the area between the old Bloomingdale Road (Broadway) and Riverside Drive. Starting at the Cathedral Of Saint John The Devine (the largest gothic structure in the world) tour highlights include Humphrey Bogart's childhood home, Victor Herbert's home, buildings designed by famous New York architects. Former homes of Hollywood legends, legendary writers, legendary composers and even a couple of legendary criminals. See sites that played host to battles during the Revolutionary War, while George Washington escaped north.
We can begin at the Cathedral of Saint John The Divine, the largest Gothic structure in the world (this site has a "suggested donation" to gain entry) and one of the most beautiful spaces in this town. We then wind our way through the old village of Bloomingdale. Stops for "snacks" can be made. All of my tours are flexible and can be started almost from any where in the 5 boroughs.

An anniversary gift from my girlfriend, we met Gary at the Cathedral where he proceeded to give us a private tour of the Morningside Heights and Bloomingdale areas of the Upper West Side. The tour was scheduled for two hours, lasted three, but felt like an hour and a half. Gary's immense knowledge of the neighborhood's history and architecture was only exceeded by his enthusiasm. I highly recommend Gary's tour, and will no doubt take another one myself. A scholar and gentleman through and through.
