The first Capital of The United States
Since 1609, the world has been attracted to lower Manhattan. The Dutch came, the British came and then the United States government set up shop here. Eventually the American government, with a constitution and a Bill of Rights in place, moved out and commerce (amongst other things) moved in. See the sights of the first congress, where George Washington took the oath of office and became the first president of the United States, The New York Stock Exchange, the Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine, Trinity Church, Saint Paul's Chapel and the 9/11 National Memorial / World Trade Center site. We also go to the Brooklyn Bridge.
We will meet at your hotel (or other mutually agreed upon location) and take the subway downtown. We will see Battery Park and the Harbor. The New York Harbor is home to Liberty Island as well as Ellis Island. We will explore Battery Park and see the East Coast War Memorial, The Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine, The Sphere ( a sculpture once upon a time in a plaza between the 2 World Trade Center towers) and some sites you might recognize from the movies. We will see the Alexander Hamilton Customs House and Bowling Green Park (the oldest park in New York City). We will make our way up Broadway past the 7000 pound bronze Charging Bull of Wall Street and on to Trinity Church. From there we will visit Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. After this we will visit the 9/11 National Memorial.
