A Private Guide can show you what kind of place your child will be going to school and living in!
One of the concerns of parents whose children are college bound have is "what kind of town is my kid moving to?" New York City is made up of hundreds of neighborhoods, very much like hundreds of small towns. What I will do is decipher and illuminate for concerned parents these small towns. I will give you the history of the neighborhood, show you the historical sites and point out the best places to shop, eat and relax. I will also impart things and places to avoid.
For example, Columbia University is located a stone throw away from the Humphrey Bogart birthplace, the largest Gothic structure in the world and some excellent dining. In addition, New York University, part of the Washington Square scene since 1837 is surrounded by Greenwich Village, the East Village, "SoHo" and the cast iron district.
Looking at Fordham? Julliard? Parsons? Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College, Union or Jewish Theological Seminary or Yeshiva University? I will take you to these small towns and explain it all for you.
We will go through the neighborhood, college town if you will, and I will point out every historical site as well as various places of interest.
We will talk about night life, what night life to avoid and how to stay safe. We will discuss the importance of understanding and how to use our subway system.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: We can meet at your Manhattan located hotel or another site (that we agree upon) if you wish.
End location: I can escort you back to your hotel or depending on what you are doing after, to another location within Manhattan.
Duration: 3 hours
The tour could run anywhere from two and a half to three and a half hours. Weather and size of group can affect the duration. If you have an event of some kind after the tour please let me know as I need to be and will be mindful of this.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
25 USD - The amount of cash you carry is really up to you. Throw a rock in this town and you will hit not only a Starbucks but more likely a bank with an ATM. I don't condone the throwing of rocks, I am just using this as an illustrative device.

Great tour! Gary was knowledgeable and personable. He even gave us fun facts about things on our way to and from the subways! He had a great sense of humor. Gary was very concerned for our well being and extremely flexible when it came to the tour. Upon learning that my husband was a Hendrix fan he even altered the tour a little bit just for my husband! I would definitely recommend Gary to anyone I know!
