Fine Dining With a Twist
This tour focuses on the social, economic, cultural and architectural differences between the established French population and the American newcomers after the Louisiana Purchase. The discussion explains how New Orleans evolved into the unique city that it is today and the role the Garden District played in that process.
We will also see the current and past homes of John Goodman, Sandra Bullock, Anne Rice, Nicolas Cage and Archie and Olivia Manning.
The tour is a walking tour and covers approximately 1. 5 miles and includes a visit to Lafayette Cemetery.
Once the walking portion of the tour is completed, lunch follows at Commander's Palace assuming advance reservations can be obtained. If not, we will substitute another restaurant.
Note: Despite published hours, Lafayette Cemetery can open and/or close without notice.
For groups of 6 adults or less, you will be picked up at your hotel or another designated downtown location between 9-10:30am and returned to your hotel after lunch.
Because this is a restaurant reservation-dependent tour, we ask that attendees book this tour at least 4
week s in advance of the tour, for the restaurant, not the tour guide dictates seating availability.
As a lunch tour, the walking portion of the tour should begin between 10-11am for a noonish lunch. The walking portion of the tour will take approximately 1 hour depending on weather, the group's walking pace, questions, etc. , but we must meet our reservation time or lose it.
Lunch in New Orleans is a slow ritual and could easily take two hours, so the tour will likely last beyond the 3 hours published.
Note that we limit to group size to 6 attendees. This limit exists for two reasons. First, we want to ensure that all attendees have a personal experience and direct access to the guide. Second, we want to seated at the same table.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: We will meet at a predetermined location.
End location: The tour ends at Commander's Palace but as a courtesy, you will be offered a ride
back to your hotel or anywhere in the Central Business District or the French Quarter. (Limit 4 people.) While the tour is published as a three hour tour, it frequently lasts 4 hours.
Duration: 3 hours 30 min.
The tour itself is a walking tour and no vehicle is used. However, a 7 passenger van can be used to transport participants to and from the Garden District when agreed upon in advance.
A narrated tour conducted by a licensed, insured and native tour guide; transportation to and from the Garden District up to 6 adults. (Larger groups will meet at a designated location within the Garden District unless a larger vehicle is hired at an additional cost.)
Estimated Local Cash Needed
60 Dollars - Per Person - Fixed two and three course lunches are available for $35-45 respectively. An a la carte menu is also available with entree prices ranging from $30-50. Drinks, desserts, tax and tip at the restaurant are an additional expense.
The cost of lunch, drinks, tax and tip at Commander's Palace are not included in the tour fee.
Groups larger than 4 visitors will incur a higher tour fee. If transportation is provided for groups larger than 5 adults, the tour fee will increase to cover the additional visitors and the cost of a larger, licensed, insured, tour vehicle and driver.

We had a wonderful and informative tour of the Garden District, Cemetery, and surrounding areas in New Orleans. Dominick is very knowledgeable and a native to NOLA. Our lunch at The Commander's Palace was a treat. When we return, we would book with Dominick again.
