I will drive you trough the typical countryside North of Amsterdam with its Polders and Dykes and explain the way the Dutch struggled against the water and how we keep our feet dry in a country where 30% is below sea level.
We will stroll trough picturesque Edam, with its public weight and taste the different varieties of cheese.
We will than drive trough the Beemster polder, reclaimed in 1612(Unesco World Heritage site)to the windmills of the Schermerhorn that have been pumping water for 300+ years.
Climb to the top of the mill!
After a stop in old whalers town De Rijp, we will continue to
Volendam, souvenir heaven, from where you can take the boat to former island Marken, where the 1800 inhabitants live in tiny wooden houses.
Here I will pick you up at the dock for our drive back to Amsterdam.
