Comfortable & Private Escape to the Giant Coastal Redwoods
Enjoy quality transportation & narration from a Bay Area born private guide with over a decade of professional experience to Muir Woods. My comfortable 2015 Ford Expedition EL XLT has leather seats, a larger then average 3rd row and space for luggage. I hold a permit to park up close to the forest entrance, saving you valuable time walking in from the limited and remote public parking area.
Located just 12 miles (19km) from San Francisco's city limits, Muir Woods makes a perfect quick getaway. Take a short walk to Cathedral Grove and explore the oldest trees in this grove, or choose a longer hike along the elevated Hillside Trail, getting a different perspective of the redwoods. After, spend time in the seaside town of Sausalito. Enjoy a meal on the waterfront, taste some wine or stroll the harbor while taking in the views of San Francisco Bay. Scenic alternatives such as the Golden Gate Bridge viewpoint from Hawk Hill or Muir Beach may be available if you choose to ferry back from Sausalito on your own.
Hotel pickup time is dependent on parking reservation availability. Afternoon is best! Exact departure time will be assigned at least 2 days before your tour. Muir Woods Reservation assignment time will determine which location is visited first. You must be flexible to visit this extremely popular park.
You typically arrive at Muir Woods or Sausalito after 45 minutes of driving depending on location and traffic.
In Muir Woods, it takes about 45 minutes round trip to walk to Cathedral Grove where you find the oldest trees in this grove. If you want to take a longer walk, the Hillside Trail may be open depending on conditions (60-75 minutes). If you did not eat yet, The Muir Woods Cafe has coffee, tea, pastry items and sandwiches.
It is a 30 minute drive between Sausalito and Muir Woods. We normally stay about 1hr. If you want more time in Sausalito, you may take the ferry boat or public transportation back at a time of your choosing (ticket not included). Extra vehicle time is $100 per hour if available.

Transportation for 1-7 passengers is provided in an extended 2015 Ford Expedition EL XLT equipped with 4-wheel drive. Selected for its size, this comfortable vehicle has leather seats and a full 3rd row with 17% more leg room than other SUVs of its model year. This modern vehicle is clean and has working air conditioning and heating.
Pickup at a hotel near downtown San Francisco.
Transportation in a private SUV for up to 7 people, with narration on the way by a locally raised guide.
Stop for free time in Muir Woods National Monument (if available) and in the waterfront town of Sausalito.
$30 Muir Woods parking fee included (this is not the entrance fee) if we are granted a reservation.
By booking, you are requesting but are not guaranteed a Muir Woods reservation.
Muir Woods is switching to a reservation only policy for all on May 15. They had to do this because the facilities can not keep up with the growing popularity. Some days they have 7000 people competing for 150 parking spaces.
The process of securing a reservation begins when you book. You will be refunded if a reservation is not available within 2 days of your tour date. If you are not flexible with your departure time or do not like uncertainty, do not book a Muir Woods Tour. By booking, you agree that you are 100% okay with these terms.
