Comfortable & Private Escape to the Giant Coastal Redwoods
Enjoy quality transportation & narration from a Bay Area born private guide with almost a decade of professional experience to Muir Woods. My comfortable 2015 Ford Expedition EL XLT has leather seats, a larger then average 3rd row and space for luggage. I hold a permit to park up close to the forest entrance, saving you valuable time walking in from the limited and remote public parking area.
Located just 12 miles (19km) from San Francisco's city limits, Muir Woods makes a perfect quick getaway. Take a short walk to Cathedral Grove and explore the oldest trees in this grove, or choose a longer hike along the elevated Hillside Trail, getting a different perspective of the redwoods. After, spend time in the seaside town of Sausalito. Enjoy a meal on the waterfront, taste some wine or stroll the harbor while taking in the views of San Francisco Bay. Scenic alternatives such as the Golden Gate Bridge viewpoint from Hawk Hill or Muir Beach may be available if you choose to ferry back from Sausalito on your own.
Hotel pickup is at 8:30am or 2pm. You typically arrive at Muir Woods after 45 minutes of driving depending on location and traffic.
It takes about 45 minutes round trip to walk to Cathedral Grove where you find the oldest trees in this grove. If you want to take a longer walk, the Hillside Trail may be open depending on conditions (60-75 minutes). If you did not eat yet, The Muir Woods Cafe has coffee, tea, pastry items, grilled cheese sandwiches and salads. To provide adequate time in Sausalito, it is recommended that you depart Muir Woods at 10:45 am (4:15 pm tour) for the 30 minute drive to the seaside town. The tour departs Sausalito for San Francisco at 12:15 (5:45 pm tour) Depending on your hotel's location and traffic, you should be back at your SF hotel about 12:30-1pm (6:00-6:30 pm tour). If you want more time in Sausalito, you may take the ferry boat or public transportation back at a time of your choosing (ticket not included). Extra vehicle time is $100 per hour if available.

Thomas went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and ensure we had an amazing experience that was customized to our interests. He is very knowledgable on a vast range of information about San Francisco. Pretty much anywhere you go, he can tell you all about the area, no matter where it is. He created a route right there on the spot that gave us all sorts of interesting things to see and learn on our way to Muir Woods. Same thing for the way back. Thomas was perfect, everything a tour guide should be!
