A visual excursion of the river from atop The Peabody Hotel & stories on Beale
From the rooftop Skyway Ballroom of The Peabody Hotel and out onto the lofty Plantation Rooftop perch overlooking the Mighty Mississippi you will learn about Musicians and remarkable characters who strode the streets of Memphis below over the last two hundred years and changed the world. Then we will walk the two and a half blocks to Beale Street to stand in the footsteps of Elvis, B. B. , Jerry Lee and others and hear their stories. Your Historian / Guide has narrated on riverboats, given walking tours of music history on Beale Street and the riverfront, and given visual history tours from Downtown rooftops of the streets below. I'm motivated to share it all with you!
3:00PM Assemble in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel where we tour and learn of the beginnings of three fourths of American music from the big Bands to modern Funk, all woven into the area around this hotel, and maybe learn a thing or two about marching ducks!
4:15PM walk two blocks to Beale Street and feel what inspired Elvis, B. B. , Jerry Lee and even Eric Clapton and Justin Timberlake to perform their music; Did I mention Neil Diamond?
5:45PM End tour

Doug W. is surely the best guide possible for a Memphis tour. Talk about "local" - he is an expert on the Memphis scene, from the Blues to the Civil War to the Civil Rights Museum. He really made it fun for us to take our first trip to Memphis when we could do it up right for sight-seeing. We asked for the tour he can do just from the top of the Peabody - perfect!
