Discover the dramatic, rocky west coast archipelago on a tour to Marstrand
Scenic views of the rocky archipelago
Take a walk in the picturesque small town Marstrand
17th Century Carlsten Fortress (surcharge for inside visit)
The picturesque small town Marstrand was founded on a small rocky island, already in the 13th century. Marstrand has a dramatic history, as a "porto franco" (free port) and center for not only traders, but also smugglers. At the top of the rock, rises the impressive 17th Century Carlsten Fortress. Enjoy the view of the sea and archipelago from the walls of the fortress. Please, note uphill walking. Marstrand is easy to reach, approx. 40 min drive from Gothenburg and then approx. 3 min ferry crossing to the main Marstrand island. (Minor surcharge for ferry ticket) Take a walk through this idyllic town, with many old wooden houses and where car driving is forbidden!
