Maipo valley is known as the oldest and most important wine region in Chile. This is the place where the first vines brought from France were planted. Maipo valley concentrate the largest number of wineries to produce red wine in Chile. This valley is very close to the foothill of the andes mountain so the soil and climate to produce red wine especially cabernet sauvignon is one of the best in the world. Maipo river comes from the top of the andes mountain soil the main source of water for the region.
In this valley we can find some of the most important wineries from the middle of 19th century such as Concha y Toro and Santa Rita whose owners became pioneers in wine production in Chile.
The distance from Santiago city center to Maipo valley is about 50 kilometer, in this valley we find also many places to lunch because many locals love to go and try good typical chilean food in the countryside near the mountains.
