Tour a Maori Village and learn about the culture of the indigenous New Zealanders
If you are interested in the Maori culture of New Zealand and want to understand more about the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua then this is the perfect private tour for you. You will learn about the Bay of Plenty, how the Maori came to be here and their important journey to Rotorua. You will tour an authentic "Living Village" with a direct descendant of the Maori guides who have been sharing their stories and backyard for over 200 years, and enjoy a cultural performance complete with the famous Haka. A wonderful day tour full of geothermal wonders, history and culture.
Your tour will also include a visit to a kiwi fruit orchard, Manuka Honey facility, Rotorua City Tour, and Redwood Forest. Enjoy lush countryside and beautiful scenery on your full day tour from Tauranga.
The Tour begins with a gentle drive past Mount Maunganui and the sandy white sandy beaches. We will stop at a working Kiwi fruit orchard to view the vines and taste the green and gold kiwi fruit and juices before heading to Rotorua geothermal wonderland.
On arrival at Whakawerawera Living Maori Village your friendly local Māori guide will take you on a guided tour of their"backyard". See the Pohutu geyser, boiling mud-pools, steam vents and bubbling mud pools, and learn about how the Maori use the geothermals for cooking, bathing and heating their homes. You will also enjoy a cultural show including the fierce Haka.
After a cafe lunch and a Rotorua City drive including the Government Gardens and Rotorua Lakefront, we head back to Tauranga via stunning gorges, stopping to taste NZ Maunka Honey and see the live bee display.
After a great day out I will have you back to the port in plenty of time to board your ship, or to your accommodation for a well deserved refreshment!
