John R.

Manchester, United Kingdom

I'm Mancunian by choice rather than birth - a relocated Southerner who's spent fifteen years falling in love with Manchester.

I love to tell fascinating stories about the original, modern city. Delighted to tailor guiding services to my visitors.

It's a city of firsts. We invented the computer, split the atom and discoved feminism. We have amazing architecture from Victorian cotton palaces to millennial towers of glass and steel. There's museums and football and an amazing food scene. One of my specialisms is Food tours - combining culture, history and cuisine.

My day job is radio, so I'm used to telling stories! I also love to show off the Northern Quarter and Ancoats, the city's coolest districts and am very familiar with the city's LGBT scene, centred on the Gay Village.

A Recent Review of this guide

I lived in Mcr for 4 years in the late 70's, and were in Mcr with 7 friends. I felt that my knowledge of the city was outdated and wanted to make sure my friends were told the Mcr story was by an expert. John did just that and took us on a half day tour focusing on the very old and the very new Mcr. I can recommend John, he is a nice guy, easy going with loads of knowledge.
