Nature excursion and heritage
If you like exploring nature and history, a tour to the Head Island of Oslo is recommended. The island Norwegian name is HOVEDØYA been named because the shape of the island, hove means head in old norwegian from the Viking time.
To be able to reach the island we will need to use the public ferry from one of the piers in the city, its take about 5 minutes sailing to the island. The island its located closest to the city centre with beautiful forests, beaches and cultural heritage.
North on the island we will visit the ruins of a Cistercian monastery from 1147. We will also see the cannon batteries from 1808 and the rest of the depots. The island is known of its beautiful floral and is today n Nature Reservoir.
We will leave the city center and use a ferry to the Main island.
The ferry takes about 15 minutes from the Aker Brygge main pier in Oslo.
We would walk through the island learning about the old and new history.
The walking tour is about 2 hours and from there we will return to the city center.
