Discover the unique murals of Lyon
Lyon is famous for its gastronomy, its Renaissance district, its basilica. . . and also for its painted walls !
Since 1978, the artist cooperative Cité Création has painted blind facades everywhere in the city, and mostly in the "Etats-Unis" district, which has been labeled in 1991 "World Decade for Cultural Development" prize by the UNESCO.
This out-of-the-beaten tracks tour will show you about 20 different murals in the city, and I will explain you town planning and architecture in this city, as well as . . . History !
We'll meet in front of "Musée Urbain Tony Garnier" : a low-cost housing district in which are located about 25 murals. Explanations about this particular district and the project of the great architect and urban planner Tony Garnier.
After 45 minutes tour, we will take a taxi and after a 25-minutes drive, we will arrive in Croix-Rousse district to discover the "Mur des Canuts" : explanations about the Silk history in Lyon.
OPTIONAL : it is possible to add the visit of a silk workshop on monday (duration 1h).
Then we will walk down to the peninsula to discover the mural "Mur des Lyonnais" and the mural "bibliothèque de la Cité".
OPTIONAL : it is possible to add tastings to the visit on the way. In the morning, visit of a market.
End of the tour on the peninsula, near Terreaux square.
