Loving London and all it has to offer, I have chosen to live most of my adult life in and around this great city. I have come into the field of guiding through my passion for history. And history is more than plain facts-- a I present the history through amazing STORIES, bringing the past to life.
I read history at degree level and then became a teacher. I love imparting knowledge to others and have been told I do so with great clarity. Comments from previous travellers during my 6 years of guiding:
'You are a truly exceptionable tour guide and the tour was an amazing experience' Georgios Lysiotis
'Excellent research and I learned new facts and interesting anecdotes' Yukiko Kitajima
Guiding provides the perfect continuation of my passion for history.
I am a Blue Badge Guide (London and South East UK). This is the highest guiding qualification in the U. K. And thus, I am able to guide at any location where guiding is permitted.
London is the most visited city in Europe and for good reason. It's history dates right back to the Romans and beyond into prehistory. My personal interests are very eclectic, meaning that I am happy to cover all periods of London's amazing story. I also have a enduring interest in the period surrounding the settlement of America and the colonial period previous to independence--i. e. Benjamin Franklin who lived here for many years. One of my tours revolves around these periods--looking at the Mayflower experience and that of Benjamin Franklin. I too have lived for some years in the U. S. and also in Australia--two ex-British colonies. The history of both these settlements also appear in my Royal Greenwich Tour.
But London embraces more than its history-- many things are happening here right now, for instance: wonderful art galleries and museums (most are free), entertainments and fantastic architecture--all of which I can seamlessly include in my tours.
I have a broad knowledge of Greater London, as well as a very specific knowledge of it's two most important areas:
Firstly, the City of Westminster: the seat of power and politics with such places as Westminster Abbey (where our monarchs have been crowned for almost 1000 years), the Houses of Parliament with its enormous clock tower housing the famous 'Big Ben'.
Secondly, the City of London, the world's leading financial district, but also including such historic gems as the Tower of London, built by William the Conqueror as a palace, a zoo, a mint, a fortification and a prison--IF ONLY WALLS COULD TALK! And what better place to house the Crown Jewels! We also have St. Paul's ('The People's') Cathedral, dedicated to London's patron saint and designed by our foremost architect Sir Christopher Wren--all set within the footprint of Medieval alleyways, laid out within the city walls built by the Romans almost 2, 000 years ago.
I very much look forward to guiding you around this great city and if my tours do not fit your needs precisely, then I would be delighted to create bespoke outings just for you.
I guide using public transport, but would be able to provide private transport, if so requested.
