Enjoy the retro atmosphere in Kawagoe!
In this day trip, we will visit a castle town, Kawagoe. It is only a half an hour train ride from central Tokyo.
During the Edo Period(1603-1867), the city flourished as an important area politically, militarily and commercially under the strong influence of the Tokugawa Shogunate. "Edo" is Tokyo's former title, so the city is called by its nickname "Little Edo-Kawagoe".
There are many well preserved cultural heritage remains and historical architecture from that age such as Kurazukuri Old Storehouses, Kitain Buddhist Temple with 500 stone statues, Bell Tower, etc. If you visit Kawagoe, you will feel as if you stepped back in time of Edo Era by immersing yourself in its retrospective atmosphere.
While walking around the city, we can hear the chiming of the bell tower, and feast upon local delicacies in Kawagoe like eel, sweet potatoe products, green tea. etc.

Sachiko was a wonderful guide. She met our group at our hotel and escorted us to Kawagoe. Because we were travelling during Golden Week holidays in Tokyo, the trains and trams were extremely crowded. She was very friendly and informative. Sachiko allowed us as much freedom as we desired, yet kept us together in our travels. At the end of the day, she escorted us back to our hotel. Thank You, Sachiko.
