A full day Private Tour to the sites linked to St Therese of Lisieux and the old port of Honfleur
We start our tour with a short drive through the local countryside to the town of Lisieux. This old town became famous in the 20th Century when a local girl called Therese Martin was beatified and became St Therese of Lisieux. We will visit her childhood home, the Carmel monastery where she lived as an adult, and the largest Basilica in Northern Europe which was built in her honour and is now a centre for Catholic pilgrimage from all over the world. The church is covered with spectacular mosaics and will interest those of all faiths (and none). In the afternoon we will visit the beautiful and historic fishing port of Honfleur which nestles on the coast beside the Seine estuary, and is surrounded by the beautiful Pays D'Auge. The area is famous for it's apple orchards and dairy farms, and has a rich artistic and historic heritage. Honfleur has picturesque old streets, traditional buildings, museums, churches and monuments and we will visit the historic centre of old the old town including the old harbour.
09:00 I will meet you at your start point by prior arrangement. We then drive through the beautiful countryside of the Pays D'Auge to Liseux. Here we will visit the sites associated with St Therese of Liseux, including the house she lived in as a child, the Carmel monastery, and the spectacular Basilica built in her honour. We will take a quick lunch stop before continuing to the beautiful old port of Honfleur, where we will visit the principal local sights, including the medieval salt tax warehouses, the old port, the church of St Catherine and the many medieval shopping streets and buildings in central Honfleur. We return to your start point for 17:30 - 18:00.
