Food Tour in Lisbon
There is no such thing as traveling and not eating! For me gastronomy is one of the strongest mirrors of any society. Food has as much history as an historical archeological site, maybe even more… it grows and flourishes through the course of time! As a wine and food lover (and not a trendy foodie) let me take you on a walking tour up and down the hills of Lisbon exploring markets, having an espresso with a custard tart in a busy bakery or a beer with a codfish cake by the metro station or yet a pork sandwich and a glass of local wine at a counter just as the locals do. Let's go on a journey into our wine and food tradition, tasting our cheese and fortified wines, our smoked ham and olive oil.
There's a world of bites and delights available for us, you just need me to take you there and explain their heart and history visiting the traditional sites, shops and cafes of the city!
After we meet at your hotel or any other place in town mentioned by you, we'll start our tour from the Praça do Comércio. To reach this square we can either walk or catch a taxi. From there we'll start by having a coffee and a custard tart in an historical caffe. Continue along the pedestrian street Rua Augusta to reach Rossio square (the heart of Lisbon). We'll sample a cherry liqueur , latter some local beer and a codfish cake. Up the Chiado hill this time we'll look for the famous Bifana (our pork slice sandwich) mingling with the locals. On the way we'll stop at chocolate stores, canned fished retails stores, glove stores and other historical shops that worth a visit.
By the end of the tour we'll reach our wine bar to sample 3 local wines and 5 different types of Portuguese cheese.
You can stay in and have some more local goodies or just reach a taxi to take you back to the hotel.

Our group is sitting in The Wine Cellar where we ended our day talking about what a great tour we just finished with Matilde M. It was fun, informative, and oh so Yummy!!! Matilda was flexible, friendly, and funny. She showed us insider views and tastes of Lisbon. We were a group of 8 and all agree she is wonderful. This was the best introduction to the real Lisbon history and cuisine. Both the tour and the guide are excellent. I recommend both.
