A trip to one of the most enchanting parts of the Tuscan countryside.
Vinci is not only the great Leonardo's surname but the name of the little village on top of an enchanting hill, 44 kilometres from Florence on the way to Pisa/Livorno, where he was born in 1452.
We'll go straight to the house where he was born, a small house just outside the village of Vinci, in the middle of a splendid countryside.
We'll then go into the village where the biggest building is the tower of the Counts Guidi, now partly converted into the Leonardo Museum. There are numerous models on view relating to his inventions and recontructed from his drawings. We'll see all these machines - pulleys, tanks, a loom, a hang-glider, a bicycle and even a diving suit. . . and lots of more of his works of genius.
Outside the museum there's a terrace with panoramic views of Vinci and a very fine statue of his Vitruvian Man which shows the perfect human proportions. The narrow streets in the village are enchanting, well looked after with lots of flowers.
Vinci's native house just outside the old town and Vinci museum inside the Guidi Castle.
We can combine this half-day visit with another half-day including, for example, San Miniato, with its legendary white truffles, in the province of Pisa and very near Vinci.
We can also combine a half day in Pisa with its leaning tower.
Alternatively, we could sample some of the area's fine products such as the wine from the Montalbano hills and the extra-virgin olive oil, with some local snacks. Ask for the price.
