Visit Riga's Old Town, boulevard round and the Art Nouveau district
I designed this tour to introduce guests of Riga to the highlights of my city.
The tour includes a walk in Riga's Old Town, green boulevards and the Art Nouveau district. You will learn about life of Rigans throughout 8 centuries, and about local traditions and legends. Together we will visit all main historical sites in the Old Town, learn about their historical meaning and how they are used nowadays.
Boulevard round - a green area outside the Old Town is home to the Freedom Monument, the Opera House, as well as beautifully maintained and peaceful parks.
The Art Nouveau area is a treat for architecture lovers. However, even if you don't feel that passionate about the buildings alone, my tour also explains the development of Riga in the early 20th century. The Art Nouveau district is home to the Art Nouveau museum. The area is also conveniently close to Riga's Central Market - another point of interest you may want to visit after the tour.
After meeting up in Town Hall Square (or another agreed upon meeting point) we will start to explore the Old Town with its rich historical and cultural heritage.
After approximately 1h 30min the route continues through a boulevard round with visits to the Opera House, the Freedom Monument and Basteja hill area.
There we will take a coffee break in a local cafe before we continue our walk towards the Art Nouveau district.
After a 20 minute walk through Kronvalda Park we will reach Elizabetes Street and Alberta Street to explore architecture masterpieces of Mikhail Eisenstein, as well as local architects.
The tour ends in front of the Art Nouveau Museum on the intersection of Alberta Street and Strēlnieku Street.
Optional - pipe organ concert in Riga Cathedral at 12:00 p. m.

Agrita gave my wife and I a most enjoyable tour of the highlights of Riga. Of course she covered the basics, told interesting stories, and pointed out noteworthy sights. But her sense of humor was superb (it showcased her fluency in English), and it made the tour even more delightful. By way of example, once she learned that my wife liked to shop, pointing out the best shops was an added feature -- and humorous comments an addition to the narrative. Agrita made learning history and architecture fun.
