Exploring Largs the Firth of Clyde, Isle of Cumbrae and Millport with a private guide.
In days gone by, the city folk flocked in droves, "doon the watter" to the pretty seaside town of Largs on the Clyde Coast for their summer holidays. Today, Largs still attracts families and visitors from far and wide. Largs offers spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde from walks in and around the town. Families and kids can visit the "Viking Village" during the annual Viking Festival in September. Wildlife "Rib" cruises are available from The Yacht Haven and don't forget Nardini's Café, world famous for its ice cream.
ISLE OF CUMBRAE
A 10 minute ferry trip from Largs takes us to the Island of Greater Cumbrae and the town of Millport. A haven for wildlife, there are over 120 species of birds and seals which can be spotted in the bay. Millport boasts safe beaches for kids and offers a variety of indoor and outdoor amusements as well as Europe's smallest Cathedral, The Cathedral of the Isles. Spend some time at The Museum of the Cumbraes in Garrison House or the aquarium at the Marine Research Station.
A short scenic journey brings us to the seaside town of Largs. I grew up in Largs, I still live here today and take great pride in showing you around my home town and surrounding area. In 2013 we commemorate the 750th. anniversary of the "Battle of Largs", the last Viking battle fought on Scottish soil in the year 1263. We can visit "The Pencil" monument, Nardini's art deco cafe and stop at a panoramic viewpoint. There is time for some local shopping in Largs if you wish before crossing to the island of Cumbrae and the town of Millport. A drive around the island, known as Auchinmurn island in the novel "Hollow Earth" allows us to see the natural rock formations known as "Lion Rock" and "Crocodile Rock" both of which are used in the novel by John and Carol E. Barrowman. Many people cycle around Cumbrae and few cars add to the idyllic atmosphere on the island.

Our tour of the Isle of Arran was great. We covered a lot of territory in one day. Our tour guide, George made the trip extra special. Highly recommend.
