Krakow Christmas Market and Polish Christmas Delights With Local Guide
The traditional Polish Christmas celebrations are regarded as the mots important annual family-focused feast. By tradition, a Christmas tree is decorated here on the 24th of December and stays with us untill the 2nd of February, i. e. for the entire Christmas period according to the liturgical callendar! The most important holiday in Poland is Christmas Eve. On that day the menu does not include meat and consists of 12 dishes which symbolises 12 apostles. The supper starts with breaking and sharing wafers (oplatek) and expressing the best wishes to your relatives. Such dishes as a beetroot soup with traditional ravioli, a mushroom soup, dumplings (pierogi) with sauerkraut, carp with plait bread and a poppy seed cake are simply a must-have! Krakow is the town where you can really feel the Christmas atmopshere and celebrate with locals having a sip of famous local mulled wine and treating yourself with local delicacies: roasted nuts in sugar, local ginger bread and big variety of Polish home-made tinctures.
