Ketchikan, Up Close and Personal
Customize a tour to your personal tastes, explore areas of personal interest, and get your pressing questions about life in Southeast Alaska answered by a 30+ year Southeast Alaska resident and Forest Service retiree! See the sights most folks come to Ketchikan to see such as totem poles, bald eagles, fish ladders, Native American clan houses, Old Growth Forest, snow-capped mountains, beautiful views, or explore areas personal interest such as Ketchikan's unique public radio station, KRBD. Customize your tour to include shorts hikes through the Alaskan Old Growth forest with the potential to see feeding bears along Ward Creek.
Depending on the client's particular preferences, mode of travel and the time of day and the weather, I typically pick up from the cruise ship dock, take a sort orientation drive around downtown Ketchikan and then head south of town to either the Saxman Village totem park or the Herring Cove bear viewing area.
Again, depending on client preferences, weather or other variables, I can either head north of town to the Brown Mt road, Ward Creek Trail, Totem Bight, or the Settler's Cove State Park.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Assuming you arrive by cruise ship (as most visitors do), I will meet you as you exit your ship. I'll be wearing distinctive clothing so you'll recognize me.
End location: At the end of your tour, I will drop you off next to your cruise ship.
Duration: 3 hours
This standard tour lasts for 3 hrs. It begins with pickup at the cruise ship and concludes 3 hrs later with drop off at the same location.
Transportation during your tour will be via the tour guide's personal 2012 Subaru Forester which comfortably seats a maximum of three persons (not including your tour guide). There will be short walks through tour venues such as museums and totem parks. If your tour is customized to include viewing nature and wildlife, it will include short hikes along maintained trails which may include some stairs.
Typically, tours include visits to the Totem Bight State Park, a short hike along the Ward Creek Trail, a visit to the Saxman Village Totem Park, carving shed and bald eagle's next, and a visit to Herring Cove (subject to availability) for potential bear viewing. Your tour may be customized to focus on your areas of personal interest.

I am not permitted to drive my vehicle onto the cruise ship dock. If you arrive by cruise ship, I will meet you as you exit your vessel and we will walk (a few hundred feet) to where my vehicle is parked.

Stephen seemed to know everything about Ketchikan- from the historical perspective to the cultural. He drove us all through the city and into its outskirts, pointing out all the relevant sites. He has a very personable and pleasant demeanor and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour.
