Learn more about Jewish history in Krakow and see unique monuments related to Jewish Heritage

One of the most important stories to be told in Krakow, one of the most interesting, but also tragic. As a historian specialising in the topic, I will tell you the history of over seven centuries of Jewish presence in Krakow showing you one of the best preserved Jewish districts in Europe with its unique synagogues, cemetery, and traces of Jewish pre-war life.

The second part of the tour will be related to the tragic times of World War II when Jewish life as it used to be was destroyed. We will see not only an area of the former ghetto with a square which now bears the name of the Heroes of the Ghetto, but also a building of famous Schindler's Factory.

During the tour, you will find out more about contemporary Jewish life in Krakow.

Itinerary

The tour starts on Szeroka Street, we enter Remuh Synagogue and Remuh Cemetery, optionally also the Old Synagogue, walking by Kowea Itim le-Tora Synagogue, High (Wysoka) Synagogue and Izaak Synagogue we will proceed to Plac Nowy and places related to Schindler's List (the movie).

After crossing Wisła River we will explore former Jewish Ghetto area and tour ends up at the entrance to Schindler's Factory.

A Recent Review of this tour

Barbara provided us with an in-depth introduction to one of the most moving and troubling periods in the history of her city. We will never forget it. She was also most understanding when we had some difficulty locating our meeting place and spent some additional time with us in order to complete our agenda. Her tips for making the most of our time in Jrakow were also very much appreciated.
