Discover the history and the present day life of the Jews in Hamburg
Jewish people always played a substantial role in Hamburg history.
Sephardic traders from Portugal settled here in the 17th century; wealthy Jewish bankers and businessmen took the stage two centuries later, while great scholars, such as Joseph Carlebach, formed the spiritual part of the community.
Jewish Hamburg Tour will go through both the glorious and the darkest days of the Jewish history and provide you with lots of historical insights, many of which will certainly leave you surprised.
- Get to know Hamburg's Jewish history from the early days until today.
- See some key historical buildings, such as Torah Talmud School, which is the current seat of Hamburg's Jewish Community
- Pay attention to memorials, for example to the famous Bornplatz Synagogue
- Embrace the signs of the Jewish revival: current community buildings, new synagogue, kosher restaurants and other establishments give hope to the continuation of Hamburg Jews' legendary story.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ian's walking tour of Jewish Hamburg. He is knowledgeable and personable. All questions were answered carefully and he has interesting stories to tell about some of the leading people in Hamburg's past. I was also interested in today's Jewish community and Ian was able to discuss that also. All together a worthwhile morning tour.
