A walking tour of Copenhagen's Jewish History, and World War II with private guide
This walking tour comes through historic Copenhagen with a special focus on Jewish life in Denmark, a story that goes back to the 17 century - tales of overcoming discrimination, and finding a home. A second theme is the German occupation of World War II, where the Jewish saga culminates in the boat lift of the Jewish population of Denmark to neutral Sweden.
Underway we hear about daily life in Jewish Copenhagen, prominent personalities and how the Jewish and the Danish identity has clashed and mingled over the generations.
A visit to the Mitzvah museum - designed by Daniel Libeskind - is included in the program (entrance fee in other expenses).
The tour is mainly on foot.
On the walk you pass:
Langelinie area, Mermaid Statue*, Citadel fortress, Gefion Fountain, Churchill Park, WWII memorials. Transport with Harbor Ferry past Opera House, Amalienborg Royal Residence, Nyhavn Canal, Kings New Square, Bremerholm area (immigration area), Old Stock Exchange, Christiansborg Palace. Library Garden, Kirkegaard Statue, Mizvah museum.
Walking transfer from here through Old City to fx. Tivoli Gardens, Glyptotek Museum, or Strøget Shopping Area.
Or finish off with a harbor and canal cruise.
(Tour sequence is as would be from a Cruise ship at Langelinie or Toldbod Pier, tours from central city or Ocean Pier would be organised differently).

This was just what we needed to learn about the history of Jews in Copenhagen, which is intertwined with the history of the city itself. Paul was informative and engaging. The tour also let us see many of the important sites. we were in Copenhagen for only one cruise day, we look forward to returning!
