Jewish district and Salicotto near Piazza del Campo
My family lived in the Jewish District, that is also the territory of the Contrada of the Torre, one of the 17 districts existing in Siena that organize the Palio Horse Race twice a year on July 2 and August 16. and during the fascist regime lived the deportations and the poverty of the jewish district in Siena, . This heritance made me very interested in the Jewish history in Siena and Tuscany. We will visit the Sinagogue and learn about the history of the Jewish community in Tuscany. meeting their people, their trades and their experiences. We may also visit the Museum of Memory that is focusing on the history of Tuscany during the II WW and the State Archive with documents and splendid ancient books on the jewish culture.

A Recent Review of this tour

We had a wonderful tour from Stella. She was bubbly, funny had excellent knowledge of English and of course her home city of Siena. We were particularly Keen on finding out about the Jewish culture in the city. There was a limited amount to see but she gave us a sufficient flavour. Sadly our party split up at the Domo and we did not have time to say thank you properly for a wonderful 2 hours.
