The Great Hunger in Connemara - 3 days tour!


A three-day tour of the West of Ireland visiting the sites associated with the Famine of 1845 to 1850.

We will stay in a family hotel in the heart of Connemara and from there we will see the now-deserted famine villages, museums, and the Delphi death valley where hundreds perished. The tour will finish with a boat trip up the Kilary Fiord. Food, accommodation, and all fees are included in the price.

This tour is essential for anyone interested in exploring the Great Hunger that devastated the isle.

Itinerary

Day One.

Ex Dublin or other pick up venue and travel to Connemara where the Great Famine had the most effect on the country. Travel through the stunning countryside visiting deserted villages with lunch at a traditional hostelery. Visit site of the First Transatlantic flight by Alcot and Brown across the Atlantic. Then we visit the stunning Kylemore Abbey and through the fabulous twelve Pins and the Irish speaking part of Ireland. Arrive at our hotel in the evening with Dinner

Day Two.

Ex-hotel and travel through Connemara, visiting a famine museum and then onto Achill Island to the Deserted Village on Sliabh Mor with a reenactment on site on how the last family fled . Westport for lunch in Matt Molloy's pub with Traditional Irish Music. Then back to the hotel via Clew Bay with its 365 Islands. Dinner

Day Three.

Boat trip up Killary Fiord into the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Croagh Patrick Irelands Holy Mountain and the National Famine Memorial. Late lunch in Fureys traditional pub before drop off.
