Volcanoes, Waterfalls and Black Sand Beaches
We will spend the day seeing some of the most beautiful places in Iceland. Volcanoes, waterfalls, and black sand beaches are the theme of this tour.
In a private tour like this, we can also be flexible. We know about hidden places away from the famous tourist attractions. We like to show them to small groups on a personal tour but we do not want them to get so famous that they will get crowded with people.
Before the tour, or on our way, we can discuss those options.
In this tour, we drive over Mt. Hengill, one of Reykjavik's volcanoes over to the South coast. On the way down at the other side, we begin to see the South Coast volcanoes emerging in the distance.
Hekla is probably the most active volcano, having erupted every 10 years for a long time. Now she has been quiet for 17 years so the next one can happen any day. Driving through the south we see the volcanoes on our left hand and the Atlantic on our right.
Eyjafjallajökull is one of our destinations but on our way to there, we pass some stunning waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss. On the way to there, we have the option of a stop at the Volcano Center in Hvolsvöllur. It is a newly opened interactive volcano museum that brings the volcanoes to live.
The black sand beach Reynisfjara is our last stop before turning back. It is among the most stunning and most photographed places in Iceland.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Anywhere in the Reykjavik capital area.
End location: According to your wishes in the Reykjavik capital area.
Duration: 10 hours
The duration can vary a bit upon weather conditions and your wishes.
I usually drive a Land Rover Discovery 4, a very nice 4x4 that copes well with all weathers.
For bigger groups, I hire minivans like Mercedes Benz Vito or Sprinter 4x4, depending on the weather, time of year and the size of the group.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
6000 króna - It is a long day and we will be stopping at road shops for a coffee and some nice restaurant to eat. In this part of Iceland, you get the freshest fish. If that is your favorite dish we will have some really nice choices for lunch.
I am not qualified as a glacier guide and will there for hire such services upon a request.

We had a wonderful tour with Dofri to places on the South Coast and the highlands. Dofri was very personable and responded to our interests and preferences. We went to some very off-the beaten-track locations that were beautiful and unique. We also got to know Dofri and in doing so felt we had a new friend and more insight into Iceland and its issues and values. The day was really enjoyable and we felt we had experiences we would never have had with a traditional tour. We will always remember this day.
