Otaru flourished as a trading port dealing with coal and herring and a port serving Sakhalin's development during the 1920'-1940's.
Otaru has abundant clear water and a cool climate appropriate for making good sake. I want to take you to Tanaka sake brewery to see how sake is brewed. After that, we can visit a nice seafood restaurant and enjoy sake with sushi, grilled fish and shellfish.
After lunch we'll enjoy strolling freely and take a look at glass shops, souvenir shops, and many other shops. Then we'll walk to nearby Otaru Canal. The canal is an historical site which recalls the city's good old days.

I had a great tour with Kaoru and learned a lot about the port city of Otaru. The sake tour is very interesting. I was very impressed by all the local art galleries and fantastic confection shops. Otaru is a fun city to visit. It was a wonderful experience!
