Discover one of Hawaiian royalties' favorite places, and what has been described as the most "authentic of Hawaiian towns."
This relaxing ½ day tour is for the traveler who just wants a sampling of what historic Hilo Town has to offer. Hear the tales of Hawaiian folklore and history as we visit sites such as Rainbow Falls where, legend has it, the mother of the demigod Maui resides, the prophetic Naha stone, and the famous statue of "King Kamehameha the Great. "
Lucky are visitors who tour on Wednesdays and Saturdays, for they are able to saunter through the renowned Hilo Farmers' Market, a crush of fresh fruits and veggies, wares, and specialty items- perfect for nibbles, and eliminating your "gift list. "
Onward to the Old Mamalahoa Highway- "Old Hawaii" at its finest, as it twists through "jungle tunnels. " Peer over the cliff's edge at Onomea Bay. From there we head to the amazing Akaka Falls, and stroll along a ½ mile loop through the lush tropical rainforest to reach the falls, which cascades 442 feet into the gorge below.
We end our tour at the peaceful and lovely Lili'oukalani Park, to share parting Aloha.
King Kamehameha Statue
Naha Stone- where young Kamehameha sealed his fate
Rainbow Falls- home to demi-god Maui's Mom
Old Mamalahoa Scenic Byway- 4 mile "Jungle tunnel" of one-lane bridges & waterfalls
Onomea Bay overlook
Akaka Falls- 442 foot waterfall, one of the tallest in the state. Note: Here, there are 3 options: partial view of the falls from the entrance, (no stairs), a 300 foot short-cut directly to the falls, or the favored route of sauntering along a ½ mile loop through the jungle. (Both walks are paved but have stairs. )
Queen Liliu'okalani Park- the largest Japanese park outside of Japan, and Banyon Drive.
Free Hilo Farmer's Market (on Wednesdays and Saturdays only)

We enjoyed our tour with Dewaine, he was friendly and knowledgeable. He added that extra "bit" that made this tour standout over the "tour bus" version
