Famous London sites in the Capital's two Cities
See/learn about London's most famous Westminster attractions: Royal palaces and parks, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, the Guard Change, Trafalgar Square, our National Galleries. . .
We carry on to another City--'The Square Mile' the earliest settled 'Londinium'--of the Romans--see their remains. On to the Tower of London, used as a palace, a fortress, a prison and site of execution now only lived in by the Ravens! Keeper of the Crown Jewels!
Wander through the medieval alleyways still surviving redevelopment. Hear about the financial/judicial side of London: and of it's Patron Saint commemorated by St. Paul's Cathedral--where our national heroes are memorialized and where Charles, Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer.
WHY TWO CITIES?
The Great Fire of London shifted all westwards when 4/5 of the City was destroyed. !Now so much has been rebuilt--we will see spectacular pieces of Architecture amongst its financial/insurance institutions, eg Bank of England, Lloyd's of London
London consists of two cities--the City of Westminster, site of political and Royal power--and the City of London--world famous financial and legal centre; also where the first inhabitants settled--The Romans, later the Saxons and the Normans. Why this difference?
The Great Fire of London of 1666 caused a movement West when 4/5 of the City had been destroyed.
Our Westminster Tour includes: Royal palaces and parks, Houses of Parliament. We could see the Guard Change, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square and its Galleries.
The City of London part of the tour includes St. Paul's Cathedral--masterpiece of Baroque architecture; the Tower of London--Castle/palace built by William the Conqueror to subjugate the British population and to protect his lands from foreign invasion. We can explore the Roman remains, some hidden far down under street level; the Medieval alleyways whose footprints have survived City Development--speaking of which, we also see spectacular modern-day buildings!

Our family of 4 (including 25 & 17 yr. old boys) just returned from a month in UK and Ireland. We always use private guides when possible and Dianne is one of the very best. This was the first of 3 days with her. She is flexible (we did the Beefeater tour of The Tower on our own the day we arrived), organized (she had me get tickets in advance whenever possible), knowledgeable (our youngest son will major in history, so it can be a challenge to hold his interest), and a joy to spend time with.
