Shore excursion by foot; The Little Mermaid, The Royal Residence, The New Harbour; the best sights of Wonderful Copenhagen.
A guided walking tour is one of the best ways to see Copenhagen.
The Little Mermaid is now 100 years old and still forever young. Completed in 1913, this famous statue was made to show tribute to Hans Christian Andersen; the world-known fairy tale writer. We pass the Gefion Fountain and the Old Citadel built in the 1600s. We visit the Royal Residence, Amalienborg Castle; a beautiful rococco complex, on our way to the Castle Island. On the tour you get stories about Hans Christian Andersen, about the Danish slave trade and the Royal House of Denmark. If you want to, it is now possible with a new bridge, also to visit the socalled free state of Christiania.
This is an introduction to Copenhagen. To the tour can be added inside guided tours eg. in the prehistoric collection at the National Museum, in the Royal Reception Rooms at Christiansborg Castle, at the New Carlsberg Glyptotek (Art Museum) or other sites. This will add on time and entrance fees. Please note that most museums are closed on Mondays.

Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: From your hotel in Copenhagen or from your cruise ship pier.
End location: Same place
Duration: 5 hours 30 min.
Combined walking/public transportation. Walking app. 3½ miles. (which you easily walk when you go shopping in a mall!). We use bus/train or metro when adequate. The best way to experience Copenhagen is by foot. We avoid delays because of road works and Metro building sites etc.
Should you want a minibus, then I can arrange that; because of prices in Denmark and VAT etc. this will approximately double the price of the tour.
I'm a qualified guide from the University of Roskilde, and the price covers my service as a guide. Using public transport, when adequate, is also included.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
150 DKK - Snack, coffee, small souvenir
Whatever you need to buy for consumption on the tour. Lunch (with drink app. 30 USD per person). There are no entrance fees on this tour.
- Due to licence and insurance issues I cannot act as driver/guide. I arrange transport and use public transport or taxis for tours.
- My northernmost servicing point in Jutland is Aalborg, I do not take tours to Skagen.

Poul was FANTASTIC! He speaks excellent English and is knowledgeable, warm, and flexible. He created a wonderful adventure for our family: sweet and patient with our busy three-year-old, and serious with our scholarly 9-year-old, keying our route and his narration to their attention and interests. AND he was unfazed when the little one unexpectedly got sick--just helped us clean her up and get back to the tour. Really couldn't have asked for a better or kinder guide--highly recommended! Thank you, Poul!!
