The Daughter of the Baltic See
The best way to explore Helsinki is on foot. You will have time to look at details and explore the interiors. I am ready to focus upon themes that interest you.
During the walk you will see all the important sights in Helsinki, such as the Market Square, the Senate Square, the Esplanade, the Finlandia Hall, Helsinki Music Centre and the Rock Church.
The tour will start with the Senate Square where you find buildings from the 18th century. Helsinki is the city where west meets east. The city was founded by a Swedish king in 1550 and made capital of Finland by the Russian emperor Alexander I.
Helsinki is today known for its modern architecture, its many parks and a long coast line. You will be able to see how the city grew and changed during the different decades. I will give you hints where to shop and where to eat. You will feel almost like at home after the walk. Helsinki is a human size city and you are close to everything - business, culture and nature.
Please remember comfortable shoes.

Christina made our tour very pleasant despite the rain, and the cathedral being unavailable. We talked and talked and mostly about history. She was able to answer all our questions and clear up some of our queries re the relationship of Finland with Russia. She also went out of her way to search for history books on Russia and took us to a secondhand book store which proved fruitful. Thankyou for the shopping experience at Iittala as well!
