Home of Eliel Saarinen the famous Finnish architect, father of Eero Saarinen
We will see the main sights in Helsinki including famous church built in the bedrock of Finland ( now there is a 3 € entrance fee ), Senate Square the monumental center of Helsinki and the Hakaniemi market and covered market. This market is where people in Helsinki go shopping.
We also drive out of Helsinki ( 30 minutes ride ) to the countryside where we will visit the unique residence cum working place of well know Finnish architects Eliel Saarinen, Herman Gesellius and Yrjö Lindegren.
We start by driving out of Helsinki to Vhitträsk, about half an hour drive. We will visit the buildings of the architect trio and also walk down to the lake. We return to the car after spending about 1 1/2 hour on spot. In Helsinki we visit the Rock church ( Temppeliaukion kirkko now with a 3 € entrance fee ) ) see the market place and covered market in Hakaniemi. We have a look at the Esplanades, maybe the most beautiful part of Helsinki with nice coffee shops and design shops. Then return to ship or hotel. Total 6 hrs.
