Helsinki Highlights & Architecture City Tour and Architect Saarinen's Home Museum Hvitträsk, Out of Town
We drive around in Helsinki to see the main sights and then to the countryside. First we visit Hvittraesk Museum, built between 1901-1903 by architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. The main building, designed in National Romantic style, built of logs and natural stone, was both a common studio and a home for Eliel Saarinen and Armas Lindgren for some years after it was completed. Located outside Helsinki, 25 min drive through the countryside.
Then we return to Helsinki and see all the highlights, including the Railway Station designed by Saarinen.
Another famous Finnish architect was Alvar Aalto and his studio can also be visited (must be checked in advance).
I also suggest visiting an art exhibition, like the historical Tarvaspaa or Ateneum, the Finnish National Gallery. Please note that museums are closed on Mondays.
Time permitting, we pop in the Finnish Design shop, iittala, on the Esplanade.
This excursion can be customized and your guide's hobby is design, art and architecture.
On this tour, you get to see the main highlights of Helsinki, as well as the countryside, and a lake.
Visit Hvittraesk, approx. 90 min altogether. We go in and visit the museum that used to be the home of the Saarinen family. The museum is only open from May to October and not open on Mondays & Tuesdays.
On our way back to Helsinki, we also visit Tarvaspaa, the atelier of artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela.
We will drive around and see all Helsinki Highlights (incl. the Sibelius Monument, etc. ) Also walking a little on the Open Air Market and/or the Esplanade. Maybe have a look at Finnish Design.
Drive by the Central Railway Station and the National Museum, also some other Art Nouveau buildings designed by Saarinen.
The historical center of Helsinki is around the Senate Square where the Helsinki Cathedral is located.
Visit the Rock Church, with pre-purchased tickets (included).
Order of the sights may vary.

This was my second tour with Maarit, the first being the City tour. On this tour we went outside the city to visit Hvittraesk museum and Tarraspaa Atelier. We also enjoyed a boat cruise around the islands which I had requested. Maarit is well versed in art and architecture as well as many other subjects and is a good companion. Highly recommended!
