Experience Helsinki Archipelago and Finnish Sauna

Welcome to a private boat tour to explore Nordic nature, historical sites and spectacular views at Helsinki archipelago. On this tour you can enjoy the best public sauna in Helsinki and dip from the heat of sauna into the cooling Baltic Sea.
During the boat tour we visit one or more islands at the Helsinki archipelago. Please see the suggested sites at the itinerary. After the 3-4 hours boat tour at archipelago you have 1-2 hours for relaxing in Finnish sauna. I will guide you into Finnish sauna tradition and practices.

A visit to sauna takes you to to experience something exciting, relaxing, and very Finnish at the same time. Sauna is a centuries old tradition and essential part of everyday life in Finland. You have an opportunity to relax in one of the best saunas in the world and see Finns doing what they love the most.

Nakedness is part of Finnish sauna customs. Men and women have separate shower and dressing rooms. It's ok to wear swimwear in sauna and in unisex saunas wearing a swimwear is required.

On a boat trip we visit 2 or 3 islands at archipelago:

1. The Sea Fortress of Helsinki Suomenlinna is no. 1 historical site of Helsinki with over 1 million annual visitors.

2. Historical Military Island - Vallisaari is an island with an exciting nature path between 19th century fortresses.

3. Lonna island is a tiny unique island with a nice restaurant and cafe (with the best waffles in a town). Lonna was on 19th and 20th centuries a closed military island as a base for storing and clearing mines.

After the island hopping, we park the boat in the city center where all most interesting city highlights are in a walking distance. I guide you to:
- Old Market Hall,
- Market Square,
- Senate Square,
- Presidential Palace,
- Helsinki Cathedral,
- Uspenski Cathedral

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: I come to pick you up from your hotel, accommodation, airport, or cruise ship terminal in Helsinki area.

End location: I drive you back to your accommodation or cruise ship terminal.

Duration: 5 hours

We make a 3 - 4 hour boat tour and after that there are 1-2 hours for relaxing in the sauna.

It is possible to adjust the schedule based on your preferences.

At sea we travel by a 6 meters (20 feet) long boat with 100 hp engine. The boat is registered for 6 people.

On land we travel by a normal size station wagon family car. The car is spacious and comfortable for 3 adult passengers.

It is possible to book this tour also for 4 persons if 3 passengers feel comfortable to travel in a normal size family car's back seat. Drive times are short - about 15 minutes long.

What’s Included

Other: - My services as your personal tour guide, driver, and a boat skipper
- A possibility to visit unique nature and historical sites accessible only by a boat
- Introduction to Finnish sauna culture
- A visit to one of the best public saunas in Helsinki.
- Sauna entrance fees

This is a trip to the archipelago with a city twist. We travel with an open motorboat (6m or 20 feet and 100hp), so a bit of the elements may be part of the boat trip experience. All guests are provided a life jacket.

Your safety and comfort is my first priority. In the case of very bad weather we need to take a ferry instead of a boat. With a bad weather conditions the number of places to visit is also limited.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

30 Euro - Entrance fees to a public sauna are included to the tour price.

Towel rental at the sauna is 5-10 euro.

You may want to spend 20-40 euro extra for snacks or restaurant at the islands.

A Recent Review of this tour

Jaakko made the short time that we had in Helsinki fantastic. Incredibly accommodating to our weird shopping requests, and very insightful when explaining the history and climate of Finland. I'd recommend his tour to anyone wanting a truly personalized tour of Helsinki.
