South part of the Valley

Most of the places where handicrafts are elaborated in the Valley of Oaxaca, are situated in the south part of the Valley.

Coyotepec is famous for the elaboration of black ceramic in way that are tracked down to the beginning of Monte Alban. The technology is very simple, the dexterity extraordinary!

Tilcajete is now the leading locality for the production of fantastic wooden sculptures generally known as "Alebrijes", generally decorated with bright color.

Jalieza, where women do preserve the very old way of producing textiles using the back-strap loom, the oldest device for weaving.

Ocotlán produces hand forged machetes and knives and painted ceramic figures. We do visit here the Museum too.

Zegache has a magnificent, beautifully painted church, one of the many restaured by the Rodolfo Morales foundation.

Oaxaca is famous for its handicrafts and we do visit in this tour, workshops where you will see the processes used for its production

The tour starts with the visit of Coyotepec where Black Pottery is elaborated.

Then, to Tilcajete to see the "Alebrijes" making, after this we might have lunch

The next place to see will be Ocotlán where we visit a ceramic workshop, the church and the museum

We continue with the visit of Jalieza textiles and finish our tour

Going to Zegache where the workshop reproduces images and mirrors from the reredos of the church-

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: For all the customers lodged in the city center, I will pick them up at the lobby of their hotel or any other place they are in. For people staying outside the city center, we will phone and establish a meeting point.

End location: All tours end normally at the starting point, unless people want to be dropped at an other places in the city.

Duration: 6 hours

Weather conditions, social events and traffic might influence the total duration of the tour.


Transportation will be done in a VAN with A/C, in perfect conditions of service.
