Some highlights of Northern England - 3 days itinerary
Some highlights of northern England including (in my view) Englands loveliest city (Durham) and most impressive region (Northumberland) and including the world heritage sites of Durham castle/cathedral (maybe even a chance to stay in Durham castle) and Hadrians wall, giving a very full 3 day itinerary featuring Roman, Early christian and Medieval buildings and landscapes
Day 1 (staring Berwick, Durham or Newcastle).
The Northumberland castles, including Lindisfarne (castle and ruined priory on a tidal island), Bamburgh, seat of the northumbrian Kings from the 5th century, Dunstanburgh castle, Alnwick castle (used for hogwarts in Harry potter) Warkworth castle.
overnight Durham, Lindisfarne or Alnwick area
2. A journey along Hadrians wall taking in Vindolanda and Housteads fort, with an optinal walk from steel rigg to Sycamore gap (quite strenous 30-40 minutes each way) or a visit to Lannercost Priory. A stop at Cragside to take in the house, gardens or both might also be included. A brief stop at Edlingham castle and church is also possible.
overnight Durham or Alnwick area.
Day 3. to either 1. Beamish, a living history museum for a look at what life was like in 18th, 19th and early 20th century Britain then Durham. . OR Whitby (Dracula, Captain Cook, Kippers) via the north York moors (including more harry potter) to York. including Durham if not alrddeady visited.
