Visit to Goree Island
A 20 minutes ferry ride from Dakar takes us to the Dakar top destination and the most visited place in the City. However, your Dakar trip would not be complete without visiting GOREE ISLAND. Of all the places to visit to learn about Senegal' History, GOREE ISLAND is the largest hit.
The ISLAND was the major departure point in the African Slave Trade and the last place African Slaves saw before being shipped across the OCEAN to the Americas. From the 15th to the 18th century, millions of men, women and children were enslaved, sold and killed.
They were brought here against their will, under inhuman living conditions suffering unspeakable abuse.
The highlight of visiting GOREE is the DOOR-OF-NO-RETURN in the SLAVE HOUSE, through which 15 to 20 million African Slaves were shipped never to return.
A detailed tour with a knowledgeable Guide, will give you a clear idea of why this place is a such a great tourist attraction
You cannot visit Goree and remain the same person that you were previously
Upon arrival, a brief presentation of Goree is given and then we proceed to the slave house which is the highlight of your visit to Goree.
As you visit the slave house, you realize that it takes a little effort to imagine the details of the trade.
The total number of slaves in the house was estimated somewhere between 150 to 200 slaves men, women and children who had to wait for three months to be shipped away.
After a detailed presentation of slavery in English by the curator, we'll visit the small Catholic church and proceed to the historical museum, a former prison during the slave period.
Lunch can be scheduled at a typical restaurant, the Chevalier De Boufflers.

Oumar is the best tour guide ever. He is very knowledgeable, easy going, professional yet light hearted. There is nothing more rewarding as a customer than to encounter a worker that loves what they do. I can tell you that this man LOVES his job! He is well known and he makes the process from start to finish seamless. When my family members and friends visit Dakar, I will always recommend your services. If all of your guides are like Oumar, you will never go out of business. Thank you Oumar!!!
