Walking Tour - 2 hours
"The Lighting alone quite definitely makes Ghent worth visiting", 3 stars in Michelin Travel guide (2004)
When night falls, thousands of lights switch on and bring out the best of the medieval heart of the city. The award winning lighting plan by French designer Roland Jéol illuminates Ghent's streets and buildings at night, showcasing them from a very different angle.
The Light Plan was designed to emphasize prominent monuments, buildings, entrance gates, commercial streets, parks and squares. Not only does it make the city more atmospheric at night, it also diminishes light pollution and decreases the energy use of public lighting. Three birds with one stone!
Have a walk through Ghent at night and discover the city in its full splendour. As the city turns quiet, the medieval buildings are reflected into the water and make the city even more romantic!
Ghent's light plan won a number of international awards:
• City-People-Light Award (2004)
• Auroralia award for sustainable urban lighting (2012)
