The Landscape and History of a Gaelic Island - MacDonald & MacLeod country.

This 8-hour journey is to North Skye along the Trotternish Peninsula followed by a tour westward onto the peninsulas of Vaternish & Minginish. This tour will provide unique perspectives by revealing the Gaelic aspects of this island of mist and romance. In the hands of a native Skyeman you will gain an insight and appreciation that is provided by no other tours. This particular will introduce you to;
dramatic landscapes formed by fire and ice,
vistas across rocky crags to adjacent peninsulas and distant island chains
the meaning of Gaelic and Viking place names;
visits to Duntulm and Dunvegan castles and the locations of past deadly clan rivalry will bring alive the complexity of Clan histories;
the beauties of Gaelic music and song, and,
the superstitions and supernatural tales which had animated the soul of this Gaelic land. The stories and memories will remain with you for a long time.
If you would prefer to use your own transportation, Coinneach will accompany you, The fee will be £395 GBP.

Itinerary

You will journey to three of the peninsulas or 'wings' of this isle past the ancestral home of the Nicholsons and to The Old Man of Storr, The Kilt Rock, and MacLeod's Tables.
In MacDonald country, you will see their dramatic ruined castle with its adjacent Judgement and Hanging Hills - an evocation of their former power and grandeur. A little beyond you will explore Museum of Island Life with its contrasting insight into the everyday life of the past.
Then at Uig, a perfect haven for shipping on this rugged shore you will rest to get refreshments and perhaps sample the locally caught seafood.
From there you pass along the clan boundary of the MacDonalds and Macleods where bloody clashes once took place. Finally, our tour of the MacLeod citadel of Dunvegan will be enriched by the tales provided by the room docents who cherish the treasures of their chiefs. The Castle sits in a finely designed landscape. A restaurant adjacent to the car park will supply that essential refreshment for your return home.
