#1 Hungary tour: the Village, the Castle, and the Cathedral. Not much driving, lots to see.
This full day tour takes you along the river Danube, including 3 historic towns, and a beautiful panoramic sections in the hills and forest.
Not much driving, lots to see: driving north along the Danube in Hungary, passing small villages and forests, we visit an artists' village with handicraft fair, a castle with view, and the biggest Hungarian cathedral.
In 30 minutes we reach Szentendre, Hungary's most visited and most romantic little town. We take a walk in Szentendre, it's like an Italian artists' village with narrow, winding streets and small houses. There is always handicraft fair and galleries of contemporary art. Amazing exhibitions! (See pictures) If you like shopping, this is paradise! After Szentendre we continue our journey along the Danube, and in 20 minutes we reach Visegrád Castle. Visegrád was Hungarian royal seat for 200 years. Recommended lunch in the enchanted and panoramic Hunter's Lodge on top of Visegrád Hill. Then, drive 20 min. to Esztergom: Hungary's first capital. With the biggest and most impressive Basilica of Hungary, it is seat of the Hungarian cardinal. We can visit the crypt with the tomb of the famous Cardinal Mindszenty, and the gorgeous treasury with astonishing artefacts. We even have a view over the Slovakian border.
In the end we take the shortcut back to Budapest (1 hour, 20 minutes)

Excellent tour along the Danube River. Enjoyed the locations that Katalin picked for us to see. She knows the history plus we enjoyed talking about the recent times, the people, culture, and her views and family experiences. Katalin took us to a great location for lunch in the forest with excellent food. She was also very flexible to modify the tour as we needed.
