Discover Florence and the Florentines through your palate

Traditional food and drink reveal the character of a city and its inhabitants as well as and sometimes even better than its history and gorgeous art. Let's explore the old Tuscan cuisine handed down from one generation to the next over the centuries.

Itinerary

We will wander in the two main markets of Florence, San Lorenzo and Sant'Ambrogio, both built at the end of the 19th century, enjoying the lively and noisy atmosphere of genuine markets frequented by city residents. Be prepared to taste our delicious cheese, prosciutto and bruschetta drizzled with local olive oil. We will proceed through the narrow alleys of the historical center and your tour will end with a visit at one of the most famous artisanal gelaterias in Florence where Ciro, the master "gelataio" or his lovely daughter, Cecilia, can include you in a gelato demonstration upon request. According to your preferences and appetite, we can stop at a winery or at an artisanal pastry workshop where the famous "cantuccini" are freshly made on site.

Meeting Point + Tour Duration

Meeting Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building

Duration: 3 hours

Transportation

This is a walking tour.

What’s Included

Other: A 3-hour walking tour of the city and internal visits at the San Lorenzo and Sant'Ambrogio markets.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

40 euros - This is an estimated PER-PERSON cost that includes a glass of wine, a cheese and prosciutto tasting, and a traditional Tuscan after-meal treat: cantuccini (biscotti) served with a glass of vin santo for dipping.
A higher per-person cost will apply for additional wines and/or specialized food tastings.

What’s Extra

Other: All food, wine and the gelato demonstration/tasting are extra. I've chosen not to include the cost of any tastings in the price of this tour in order to let you make selections according to your personal preferences. Please take into account that a wine tasting with 3 Chianti labels and bruschetta may cost from €15 per person to.... any price, depending on the wine!
A "cantuccini" biscotti tasting including a small glass of vin santo liquor costs about €5 per person.
A Tuscan coldcuts and cheeses cutting board may cost from €25 to €35.
The Gelato demo costs €15 per person and over the course of about one hour you will learn about the history of gelato, participate in its preparation and, of course, get to taste it!
