Santa Maria Novella, Brancacci Chapel, Santo Spirito and Santa Trinita churches private tour
Tour to discover the art of fresco painting in Florence and the Oltrarno district on the other side of the river. We visit four churches, starting with Santa Maria Novella, whose harmonious façade conceals rival ambitions of two important and very rich Renaissance men. These men sponsored Renaissance marvels that adore the church today: frescoes by Masaccio, Filippino Lippi, Paolo Uccello, Andrea di Buonaiuto, Domenico Ghirlandaio and even Michelangelo. Next, we walk to Santa Trinita church to admire "photograph frescos" from the 1480s and bitter ambitions of another Renaissance man. Cross the river and we are in Oltrarno, where in the Santo Spirito church Michelangelo studied anatomy and carved his only statue in wood. Finally, we reach a true jewel: the Brancacci chapel, entirely frescoed by Masaccio, Masolino and Filippino Lippi. This place inspired generations of artists and is the reason for Michelangelo's broken nose!

A very pleasant and informative tour. Anna is an excellent guide with amazing art history knowledge and superb English language skills, including technical art and architecture terminology. If you are looking for a very in-depth half day tour covering many of Florence's renaissance masterpieces, this tour is for you. It goes above and beyond the usual rushed tours of Florence's extraordinary art treasures.
