Civilization "Recycling" and gastronomy highlight
Glory or misery? Salamis was the capital of the island in the classical period and Famagusta was the glorious crowning town of Jerusalem in the medieval ages. Famagusta was also the scene of the bloody struggle of Venetians and Ottomans. A struggle with bitter consequences for the city, which felt in abandon after the conquest. It was also a key location in the conflict of 1974, most sensed at the edge of Varosha, the ghost city at the outskirts of town.
We will learn the stories of the transitions between the civilizations, best told by the „recycled stones". See how Hammams emerge out of churches, how Greco-Roman columns support Venetian palaces and how Corinthian capitals decorate Orthodox churches.
A cultural tour crowned by a unique gastronomical experience: the traditional Klepini tavern in the old Maronite village of Arapköy. A special tasting menu for our guests, with Cypriot specialities, you never find in town!
